The modern board game as an agent of socialization between blind and non-blind individuals, in the context of Inclusive Design


This post is intended for the thesis project that will be carried out in the next academic year of 2022/2023, in the Master in Integrated Design, at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo.

The project is authored by Rui Pires and is supervised by Professor João Martins and co-supervised by Professor Ricardo Cabral.

A relevant issue that can be highlighted these days is associated with inclusive design, more specifically focused on the niche of the visually impaired, as it can be noted today that there is still not much attention focused on the area, the Público newspaper states that “According to the Census, there are around 163,000 visually impaired people in Portugal, and there are no more than 10,000 people on the streets. All the others, many of them, are closed at home and need someone to help and integrate them (...)”[1] In this way, it is possible to know that we are still going through a moment in which the blind are not and do not feel properly integrated into society, and that they are still put aside because there are not enough alternatives, the vast majority ends up feeling abandoned, alone and without support.
